As you all know, iPhones tend to offer less storage space than their Android counterparts, and new iPhones since the iPhone X come only with 64GB of storage. Most people wonder if 64GB storage is enough for iPhone users. In this article, I will share with you why I am using an iPhone with 64GB of storage and how I make it work.

Author’s note: If you are a heavy user, this may not work for you, or it might after you read this.

As a content creator, I use my iPhone 11 Pro with 64GB to take photos and videos for my social media handles. If you’re wondering how I survived with limited storage, here are my tips.

My iPhone storage currently looks like this. I have all of my years of photos on there, plus I have 77 apps in total, including the built-in ones.

So first things first, why did I decide to go for 64GB only for iPhone 11 Pro? Well, the primary reason is the price, and second, I know that I don’t keep things that eat up my storage. I want to keep my phone as clean as possible.

So when it comes to Apps, I have the basic ones for social media, work, and camera apps that I use for both work and social media. Apps eat a lot of space in your phone’s storage, so to keep your storage free, keep only the essential apps you use. Delete the apps that you use once in a while since you can use a browser or laptop instead.

As for my contacts, I only have five people on the list since everyone is on Messenger anyway. While contacts don’t take up much space, every little bit helps.

I’ve played a lot of games before, but once I feel that I don’t want to play them anymore, I delete it right away. This step can free up your storage a lot since some mobile games consume 2.4GB.

Now for photos, photos from the primary camera in the default 4:3 aspect ratio took up about 3MB on average in our usage, while selfies with the front camera usually are around 2MB.

For videos, on the other hand, capturing a 1-minute video in 4K at 30 FPS takes 350MB of storage, and capturing a 1-minute video in HD at 60 FPS takes 175MB of storage on iPhone.

How to manage it?

From personal experience, once I upload content on social media, I delete it right after. I don’t use any cloud storage for backups, but if ever I want to keep the files, like special photos and videos, I transfer it to my hard drive for safekeeping.

For music, I use Spotify, and the only playlist I have is my personal one. I do have a habit of changing what’s on it every month so it won’t pile up. 50-100 songs are good enough for my travel to pass the time.

As for videos, thank God for streaming apps like Netflix, which doesn’t require you to download movies straight to your phone’s storage. Like some messaging apps, it can help save a lot of space.

But it’s that really enough? To be honest, since I’ve been stuck at home for four months, I’ve tried out vlogging at 4K 30fps. For that use case, 64GB is not enough, and I constantly transfer the files once my phone’s storage is full. The iPhone’s 64GB storage is great for most people, though, and even if you’re the type of person who takes a lot of photos, it can still take around 10,000 photos and hundreds of songs.

So as long as you restrict yourself from downloading games that you eventually won’t play anymore, filming lots of videos in 4K resolution, constantly check what apps consume the most, and delete what’s no longer needed, 64GB is a good enough option. Additionally, having 64GB of storage will teach you how to be more conscious about the apps and files you need.

So how about you? Could you live with the compromises of having a phone with 64GB storage? Let us know in the comments.
