Designed to be the inferior versions of their “X” or “Xtended Frequency Range” counterparts, both CPUs feature lower base clocks and boost clocks. On the one hand, the 5900 has a slower base clock by 700 MHz at 3.0 GHz and a boost clock that maxes at a value 100 MHz smaller than the 5900X. On the other hand, the 5800 is slower by 400 MHz in its base clock at 3.4 GHz as well as 100 MHz sluggish in boost clock at 4.6 GHz.

While both the 5900 and 5800 are lagging in comparison, they nonetheless share a similar core and thread counts as their superior renditions. That is, 12 cores and 24 threads for the former and 8 cores and 16 threads for the latter. Both 7nm die lithography chipsets, however, can be overclocked for better overall performance.
