ASUS recently unveiled its latest gaming smartphones, the ASUS ROG Phone 3 series, in a global online event. The handsets comes complete with powerful specs and a gaming aesthetic much adorned by ROG fans.

ASUS ROG Phone 3 and ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition

ASUS announced two variants — the vanilla ROG Phone 3 and the ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition.

The two smartphones come with 6.59-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate for smoother gameplay, and 1ms response time and a 270Hz touch-sampling rate which reduces touch latency to a few milliseconds.

They also share the same camera systems. At the back is a triple rear setup with a 64MP Sony IMX686 main sensor alongside a 13MP ultra-wide and a 5MP macro. It also has a 24MP selfie snapper in front.

Battery capacity is set at 6,000mAh, which ASUS says can run and play games like Call of Duty: Mobile and PUBG Mobile for 9 straight hours.

Also on on the ROG Phone 3 series are the AirTriggers which now on version 3. These are sensors on the side which act as virtual buttons for games.

The main differences between the ROG Phone 3 and the Strix Edition are the processor and memory.

The vanilla ROG Phone 3 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus with a clock speed of 3.1GHz (on a phone!). The chip is 10% faster than the Snapdragon 865 with an AnTuTu score of over 655,000.

It also has more memory with 12GB or 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, and more storage with 512GB UFS 3.1.

The Strix Edition, on the other hand, comes with a lighter(?) spec sheet. It has Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 with 2.84GHz clock speed, 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

As expected, the Strix Edition will cost less. Check out the price list below:

  • ASUS ROG Phone 3 (12GB + 512GB) – EUR 999 (around PHP 57,200)

At this point, ASUS PH has not yet announced local pricing and availability. Fingers crossed that its sooner, rather than later.
