Aboitiz InfraCapital announced last Wednesday that they will be deploying small cell networks in major cities in the Philippines.
A small cell network is a couple of low-powered, short-ranged small antennas that will work with macro cell towers. which will help provide better coverage and capacity, the company explains.
Aboitiz InfraCapital added that small cells will play a big role in 5G deployment as the new technology requires significant antenna density to help deliver large data at faster speeds.
This will also help the company to boost its efforts in venturing into the common tower business. They said that the small cell networks will be beneficial to internet service providers (ISPs) and telcos as it could help them improve their wireless network coverage and capacity.

Aboitiz InfraCapital’s small cell network is readily available in Cebu, Davao, and Subic — these are some of the most high-density urban cities in the Philippines.
Globe Telecom has already signed a deal with Aboitiz to improve its coverage on the said cities. There’s currently no information yet whether Smart is going to do the same.
