Adobe is finally killing the Flash Player, three years after the company said so - Android

Just recently, Adobe finally announced that they will be ending the Adobe Flash Player support by the end of the year, December 31, 2020.

Websites who are still using it can keep the Flash Player they have, but after December 31, Adobe will stop distributing and provide updates to the Flash. This means that it won’t get future security and privacy patches. So if you’re one of those entities that still uses it, it’s probably time to move on and upgrade.

In fact, you should have updated long ago. Adobe Flash was a huge thing in the late 90s and early 2000s as it allowed websites to put interactive sections on their pages like games, animations, and videos. In fact, YouTube and popular gaming site NewGrounds were reliant on Adobe Flash before.

But when the first iPhone came out, there had been a huge demand in more advanced and secured open-source platforms that would work better on mobile devices. A few years later, HTML 5 and CSS 3 came out. That’s when Adobe flash slowly lost its popularity.

The Adobe Flash Player initially came out in 1996 and has been a big part of the industry for about 25 years.
