After three years, Apple has finally refreshed its TV streaming box with the new Apple TV 4K.
Both the name and design for the Apple TV 4K are the same. But this time, it’s powered by an A12 Bionic chip—the same processor found on the iPhone XS series and Xr.
The new chipset allows it to have features like the high frame rate HDR and Dolby Vision video. Apple said they are working with top media outlets to create or broadcast content that will take advantage of this new feature.
On the downside, it’s only at 60Hz. But there’s hope as it has an HDMI 2.1 port, so a 120Hz refresh rate might arrive at a later date.
Moreover, the new Apple TV can adjust your TV settings for the best possible picture quality. To do this, you have to run the program on the TV box, a prompt will show on your iPhone asking you to poit the camera on the TV, and let it do its magic.
Moreover, the new and more functional remote now has a D-pad, a real power button, and a squarish design similar to the new iPhones. There’s a microphone on the top to talk to Siri, which you can summon using a dedicated button on the right side.
Around the back, we have the power supply port, the aforementioned HDMI 2.1 port, and Gigabit Ethernet. It also has dual-band WiFi 6, an IR receiver, and Bluetooth 5.0 so you can use your AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and other earphones if you want to watch privately without disturbing anyone.
You can also use your iPhone as the remote if the real one goes missing. The App Store is also present to stream on Netflix, YouTube, HBO, and more. We expect Apple TV Plus to come preinstalled. Games are also available with support for Apple Arcade.
