An updated 3D model of the Milky Way is laid out by scientists in all its splendor, thanks to the data gathered by the European Space Agency’s Gaia space probe—the same program that has been tasked to scan the stars in our own galaxy since 2013.

Aside from giving everyone a look at the inner workings of the space we call our home, it’s also hoped to serve as a petri dish for finding out information involving the dynamics among the celestial bodies within the galaxy and how it had expanded since the beginning of time.

The ESA has uploaded a video showcasing how the stars—as many as 1.8 billion of them—move within a “sphere” that makes up the Milky Way.

Meanwhile, astronomers at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan are making their own rendition of the entire Milky Way based on their data. In addition, a discovery was established which suggests that the Earth is moving towards a black hole over 25,000 light-years away. A potentially cataclysmic situation to our planet, albeit still thousands of light-years away into becoming a genuine concern.
