Be careful with whom you’re dealing with online. The National Bureau of Investigation is warning consumers of a new modus operandi in an online scam, one that involves the sale of secondhand laptops and alleged proof of delivery.

Take the case of one victim, Joyce Chua, who recounted her experience to GMA’s 24 Oras. She stumbled upon a laptop being sold online for only ₱7,000.

Wary of being scammed, she intended to arrange a meetup with the seller, but the latter claimed they needed to watch over their hospitalized father and suggested delivery via Lalamove instead.

Chua relented and proceeded with the delivery. She was initially relieved when the seller sent her videos as proof of delivery. There was even someone who called and claimed to be the Lalamove rider.

But no package ever arrived.

To avoid this kind of scam, don’t readily believe the tales of the seller. And insist on a cash-on-delivery basis if possible.
