Digital TV receivers have given Filipinos an opportunity to spice up their regular, non-smart TVs. Now, popular TV antenna manufacturer Baron has introduced their offering in this continuously growing market.
What’s interesting is, the Baron Digital TV Receiver is not like anything else you’ve seen before. This thing has a built-in YouTube player, which is made possible via a WiFi dongle.
The Baron Digital TV Receiver has a starting price of Php799. You can get the WiFi adapter bundle for Php999 or purchase the accessory separately for Php299. All are available through the Smart Home Tech PH page on Lazada and Shopee.
It should also be available in physical stores soon.
However, it’s not clear if WiFi dongles from other brands would work on the Baron DTV receiver. As of writing, there are a couple of alternatives out there that costs less. Some are even below Php100.
The DTV Receiver has two USB ports. One on the back for the WiFi dongle, and one on the front for accessories and external drives.
Besides YouTube, the Baron TV Box has a couple of standard features that we saw on competitions like the ABS-CBN TVPlus and GMA Affordabox.
There’s the multimedia player that lets you play music/videos from an external drive, personal video recorder, HDMI port for HD-ready viewing, Emergency Warning Broadcast System, and even free games and a port for charging mobile phones.
