Following a joint memorandum agreed upon by various concerned government agencies last July 22, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) employed a new streamlined system that subsequently gave blessing to as many as 1,502 cell site applications, according to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año as stated on Monday.

The number makes a large portion of the overall 1,930 applications, 428 of which still remains in pending.

Unlike the old method that sees application taking 241 days, 19 permits, and 86 documentary requirements, the more simplified process had the waiting period drastically reduced to merely 16 days, eight permits, and 35 documents.

At least four major telecommunication companies were behind the applications, the approved consequently being given access to 25 cities and 55 provinces across the country. 

Three of the said companies are major players, Smart Telecommunications, Globe Telecom, and the new competitor, Dito Telecommunity Corporation.
