The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has recently moved the implementation of cashless toll collection to December 1 to give ample time for motorists who have yet to install RFID stickers on their vehicles.
According to Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) Executive Director Abraham Sales, the extension was ordered by DOTr Secretary Tugade to give motorists, especially those who seldom use the toll roads, more time to comply with the new policy and to prevent the long queues currently being experienced at toll roads where installation of RFID stickers are available.
Previously, the department announced that it will implement a cashless toll collection starting November 2. DOTr’s attached agency, the TRB, stated that Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) are all equipped and ready to implement the new order. Both have extended the installation of RFID stickers beyond November 2, 2020.
The implementation of cashless toll collections at the expressways and major toll roads are part of the government’s initiative in preventing the further spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and avoiding traffic congestion in toll plazas.
Those who will fail to conform to the government mandate will be apprehended and issued a citation ticket.
DOTr Assistant Secretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor also reminded motorists to make the most out of the extended deadline and install RFIDs as early as they can to avoid inconvenience.
