Google is positioning Gmail to become the premier email service provider among clerical users as it builds up integration with Microsoft Office files, giving said users the ability to modify Office files in attachment.
The initiative simplifies a process that otherwise requires the use of Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) to make an edit and offsets the need to re-attach the modified file for sending via email.
Editing an attachment in an email is as basic as pressing the newly-placed “edit” button beside the document and proceeding to make changes from there.
For documents that contain intricate element not commonly found within a Google Workspace file, like a Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) code within Excel specifically, the tech company also launched a Macro Converter which transitions macros from Excel to Sheets.
Currently in its early rollout phase, some users may not yet see the Office integration in their Gmail accounts. But Google promises that it will be within two weeks.
