“Necessity is the mother of all inventions.” But for the students of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, it’s the need for a stable source of energy that led them to not invent, but rather repurpose, a battery made for a motorcycle into a hub for charging phones.

Coming from a report by GMA News TV “Balitanghali”, student Jemar Balsomo claims that the area used to struggle with their energy supply, citing the issue with its instability especially during rains.

To address the inherent issue, the student resorted to using motorcycle batteries for a stable source of electricity, which he and his friends used alternately to charge their phones and be able to join online classes.

The initiative for the students to improvise is driven by their need to attend remote learning as induced by the ongoing crisis.
