Filipinos spent the most time on social media, internet in January 2021 - Android

Based on a study by Hootsuite and We Are Social, Filipinos have spent an average of 4 hours and 15 minutes on social media every day this January 2021. That’s a 22-minute increase over the 3 hours and 52 minutes in 2020.

For a perspective, the global average is only 2 hours and 25 minutes.

The Philippines may be the 2nd to the last in ASEAN in terms of internet speed and reliability. Still, Filipinos also spent the most time on the internet, logging in an average of 10 hours and 56 minutes daily. That’s also higher than the previous 9 hours and 45 minutes.

In comparison, the global average is only 6 hours and 54 minutes.

However, it looks like the time spent on the internet was somewhat productive. As per the marketing research firms, the country’s e-commerce adoption increased by a whopping 80.2%, versus the previous 76%.

We Are Social and Hootsuite noted that the increased time on the internet came after Ookla revealed that the internet in the Philippines did improve. The average mobile internet speed in the country is now at 22.5Mbps, up from the previous 18.94Mbps.

Fixed broadband now averages at 31.44Mbps, versus the previous 28.69Mbps.
