Foldable smartphones are no longer new and we have seen a couple of them arrive in the Philippines last year. However, they’re still uncommon and don’t come in droves, unlike traditional smartphones. But if you’re one of those who are looking for this kind of device, we’re glad to report that you now have more options this year. Here are the foldable smartphones you can buy in the Philippines.

Samsung Galaxy Fold

Samsung announced its Galaxy Fold back in February 2019, and after a delayed launch due to questionable durability, the device officially went on sale in September 2019. It features a 4.6-inch display when folded, transforming into a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex display. It has six cameras, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 CPU, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage, and a 4,380mAh battery. When it launched in the Philippines in November 2019, it was priced at PHP 109,990. Now, you can have it for PHP 65,990 on Samsung’s website.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip in the Philippines back in February. As the name suggests, it’s a little different from the Galaxy Fold, with the Z Flip resembling a flip phone. It’s pretty compact and has a small display on the exterior, and flipping it open reveals a 6.7-inch display. The Z Flip sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ octa-core CPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, dual-rear cameras, a 10MP front camera, and a 3,300mAh battery. At the time of launch, the Galaxy Z Flip has a price of PHP 79,990 but is now down to PHP 55,990 on Samsung’s website.

Huawei Mate Xs 5G

The Huawei Mate X didn’t arrive in the Philippines, but the good news is, we got the newer model, the Mate Xs 5G. It has a 6.6-inch 2480 x 1148 main display, a 6.36-inch 2480 x 892 folded secondary display, an 8-inch 2480 x 2200 unfolded display, quad cameras, and a 4,500mAh battery. Powering it is the Kirin 990 5G CPU with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It arrived in the Philippines in April 2020 with a hefty price tag of PHP 139,999.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G

Another Samsun foldable smartphone available in the country is the Galaxy Z Fold2 5G. It’s an improvement over the Fold with a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED main display and a 6.2-inch HD Super AMOLED secondary display. It has triple rear cameras and two 10MP selfie cameras. Powering it is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ CPU, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 4,500mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is priced at PHP 109,990.

Motorola Moto Razr 5G

The newest entry in the foldable smartphone market in the Philippines is Lenovo’s Moto Razr 5G. It features the design reminiscent of the iconic Razr flip phone but has a 6.2-inch HD+ pOLED foldable main screen and a 2.7-inch OLED cover screen. For imaging, it is equipped with a 48MP rear camera and a 20MP selfie camera. Powering it is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 2,510mAh battery. The Moto Razr 5G launched in the Philippines in October for PHP 72,990.

Here’s the summary of the smartphones arranged by price from highest to lowest:
Huawei Mate Xs 5G (Kirin 990 5G, 8GB + 512GB) – PHP 139,999
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 (SD 865+, 12GB + 256GB) – PHP 109,990
Motorola Moto Razr 5G (SD 765G, 8GB + 256GB) – PHP 72,990
Samsung Galaxy Fold (SD 855, 12GB + 512GB) – PHP 65,990
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip (SD 855+, 8GB + 256GB) – PHP 55,990

As of writing, the Huawei Mate Xs 5G is still the most expensive foldable smartphone in the Philippines, while the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the most affordable. The Moto Razr 5G sits in the middle despite the mid-range processor.
