Foldable iPhone might arrive in 2022, report suggests - Android

A report from Digitimes Research believes that Apple will start making foldable phones in 2022, especially now that Samsung has already released three devices under this category.

This will inevitably further increase the demand for OLED screens. Just recently, Apple released the all-OLED iPhone 12 line, which will push other mobile brands to implement OLED panels on their midrange and high-end models.

By next year, Digitimes forecasts that 40% of mobile phone shipments will have OLED screens, and the demand for such display for the Apple Watch will likely double.

A leaked patent supposedly from Apple back in March suggests that they are actually developing a foldable phone. Another rumor backs that up, saying that the Cupertino-based company has ordered foldable displays from Samsung.

It is said that the rumored foldable iPhone will have two separate display panels tied with a hinge and has round stainless steel edges like the iPhone 11, albeit it might end up having flatter sides like the iPhone 12 series. The notch is still kept for the FaceID.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Motorola Razr 5G are some of the most interesting foldable phones in the market today. Apple’s move to enter this market will help bring the entire foldable phone industry to a more mainstream market.
