Former long-time Rockstar North President, Leslie Benzies, has secured funding to create its own open-world game that would rival GTA.

Benzies have worked with Rockstar since 2001’s Grand Theft Auto III until the Grand Theft Auto V — and other games in between like Manhunt, Red Dead Redemption, and L.A. Noire. The executive left the company back in 2016 due to issues with Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

Along with a couple of other ex-Rockstar North employees, Benzies have built its own game company called Build A Rocket Boy, which has studios in Los Angeles, Budapest, and Edinburgh.

Their first game under development is called Everywhere, a science-fiction open-world game that’s said to rival Benzies’ previous work, the Grand Theft Auto series.

Now, it’s been reported that Benzies has raised USD42 million in funding for his new game, which he got from New York investors and Chinese sources like NetEase, who also helped Bungie to fund Destiny.

In comparison, making the GTA V is said to have cost about USD265 million.

The release of Everywhere is yet to be announced, but we expect this to be one of those “next-gen” games that we’ll see on consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X. It’s built under the Amazon Lumberyard engine.

It’s said that the game will feature a number of narratives, so each players can create their own volition.
