We’re almost done with the first half of 2020. And that also means new devices for review. For the month of May, we have some from Huawei, OPPO, Realme, and Xiaomi. Check out our Gadget Reviews Roundup for the month of May.

Huawei Matebook X Pro (2020)

The Huawei Matebook X (2020) is one stylish yet powerful ultrabook. If you’re planning on investing in Huawei’s growing ecosystem (or if you already are), this laptop is something you should consider. We do have the more budget-friendly Matebook D15, but if you’re looking for more raw power, the new Matebook Pro X would be the perfect companion for your day-to-day needs.

Realme 6i

The Realme 6i is a strong start to the lineup’s release here in the Philippines, providing a lot of features and reliable performance at an affordable price. For a starting price of PHP 7,990 for 3GB + 64GB, and PHP 9,990 for the 4GB + 128GB, it’s a tough deal to beat if you’re on a budget and looking for a very reliable phone that excels in almost everything it aims to be. It has some drawbacks like its subpar display and very average camera system. But that aside, Realme did a great job with the 6i.

OPPO Reno 3

The OPPO Reno 3 is an exceptional mid-range phone that performs well in all aspects and is a dependable daily driver that’s more than capable of meeting your needs, be it for work, leisure or play. And with a solid camera build on both the front and back, you can easily capture every moment, especially in well-lit environments. But OPPO should do something about that ultra night mode ‘bug’ if you want to unlock the full potential of its camera and post-processing capabilities.

Huawei Y6p

The Huawei Y6p is a solid deal considering its massive battery, deliverable cameras, wireless reverse charging support, 64GB of internal storage, and 4GB of RAM when usually, phones on this price range typically have 3GB.

Realme 6

The Realme 6 is the company’s attempt at raising the standards of a mid-range smartphone. For PHP 11,990 for the 4GB + 128GB and PHP 13,990 for the 8GB + 128GB, you already have a device with a large hi-res screen, good performance, versatile cameras, and a large battery. And the cherry on top, the 90Hz refresh rate, a feature mostly found in more expensive devices. And given that configuration, the Realme 6 stands out and can be considered as one of the best value smartphones in the market.

Realme 6 Pro

The Realme 6 Pro is an excellent device for a particular type of person, specifically someone who values extra camera features and a slightly more premium feel. For PHP16,990, PHP3,000 more than the 8GB RAM variant of the Realme 6, you’re getting an additional rear telephoto and front ultrawide cameras, a more premium glass back panel, and a different chipset that performs almost the same as the Realme 6’s chipset.

OPPO Reno 3 Pro

The Reno 3 Pro is an exceptional device that not only has great cameras, but also holds a respectable battery life, an intuitive user interface, and massive internal storage making it superb for day to day use. Although it does not boast any exceptional design construction, this device still packs a punch when it comes to performance and quality, making it the right candidate if you’re looking for something a little long-term.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S

The Redmi Note 9S is certainly a hardy competitor in a mid-range segment that’s staying competitive despite the current circumstances. With a starting price of PHP10,490, you’re getting an attractive and tough design, a big high-resolution display, great cameras, smooth performance, and a huge battery. All those things at such a relatively low price is always a steal, and we expect no less from Xiaomi. If you’ve put together a maximum budget of PHP12k, then the Redmi Note 9S is definitely one to get.
