A hacker has allegedly managed to obtain the phone numbers of 533 million Facebook users, and he’s selling these at $20 each using an automated Telegram bot.
According to security research Alon Gal, the hacker took advantage of a vulnerability that Facebook had patched in 2019. The social network giant was estimated to have reached 2 billion users by that year, which means a huge percentage of users across countries all over the globe are affected.

Gal had also been observing how the bot worked, including how it was offering phone numbers in bulk, at $5,000 for 10,000. Affected users may experience more spam in their phone inbox. Through a phone number, a malicious individual can also discover a person’s Facebook user ID.
The obtained phone numbers were from 2019, so that may offer some relief to affected users who have already changed their phone numbers ever since. The bot was last seen operating on January 12.
