Huawei continues to develop its homemade Harmony OS. Since its introduction last year, it’s now in its 2.0 version and has recently got a developer beta release.
Those who want to sign in and be a developer beta tester can head to the Huawei developers website. However, it appears that the program is currently exclusive to China.
The program is also exclusive to users of their current flagship phones. The Harmony OS 2.0 beta’s supported devices list only consists of the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro, P40 and P40 Pro, and their high-end MatePad Pro tablet.
As for the OS itself, not a lot of detail has been announced. However, a video spotted on Weibo (see below) Gives us a hands-on look at the interface, which looks really similar to EMUI — at least for now.
In a previous event, Huawei claims that more than 10,000 developers are already on board with the new ecosystem. Albeit, the company will inevitably face bigger challenges if it plans to take Harmony OS outside China.
As for smartphones built from the ground-up to run Harmony OS, an executive from Huawei said they will be releasing such devices next year.
