Summary of advantages
Huawei Nova 7 5G:
• Better performing CPU
• Better performing storage
• Higher main camera resolution
• Telephoto camera
• Faster charging tech
OnePlus Nord:
• 90Hz refresh rate
• HDR10+ support
• Corning Gorilla Glass 5
• Depth sensing camera
• 8MP ultra-wide selfie camera
• Larger battery capacity
• Google Mobile Services
The two devices have almost identical screen sizes, with just a 0.09-inch difference. The Nova 7 5G has an OLED panel while the Nord has an AMOLED. Both will provide good viewing experiences and punchy colors. However, the Nord takes it up a notch with its smooth 90Hz panel, support for HDR10+, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
For the cameras, both have quad-rear cameras, making them versatile shooters. However, the Nova 7 5G has a higher main camera resolution and a dedicated telephoto lens. The Nord, on the other hand, has a dedicated depth-sensing camera for better portrait shots with blurred backgrounds.
Selfie-wise, both have a 32MP shooter, but the Nord has an 8MP ultrawide, which is handy for those who want to take group selfie or against a scenic background.
For their memory capacities, the Nova 7 5G is only available at 8GB, while the Nord is available in 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB.
For storage, the Nord offers 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB UFS 2.1, however, the Nova 7 5G only has two models but with a faster 128GB and 256GB UFS 3.1.
When it comes to their chipsets, the Nova 7 5G has a more powerful Kirin 985 with Mali-G77 GPU, which is almost flagship level but below the Kirin 990. In comparison, the Nord uses a premium mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G with Adreno 620 GPU.
We’re yet to benchmark both devices, but based on Kimovil’s tests, the Nova 7 5G scored 411,593 in AnTuTu, while the Nord got 312,455.
For their operating systems, both run custom UIs based on Android 10. The Nord uses Google Mobile Services, while the Nova 7 5G uses Huawei Mobile Services. Those who need Google services out of the box will like the Nord better.
As for the battery, the Nord has a larger 4,115mAh capacity compared to the Nova 7 5G’s 4,000mAh. However, the latter has a faster 40W SuperCharge, compared to the former’s 30W Warp Charge 30T.
For the price, the Nova 7 5G is priced at PHP 23,990 for the 8GB + 256GB model. The Nord, on the other hand, is yet to launch in the country officially, but reports point to a PHP 22K price tag for the 8GB + 128GB model, and PHP 26K for the 12GB + 256GB.
Which one to get?
If you want better performance, a higher resolution primary rear camera, and faster-charging tech, without spending above PHP 24K, the Nova 7 5G is for you.
But if you want a better viewing experience from the display, ultrawide selfies, GMS out of the box, and if you have a lower budget, there’s Nord device for you. If you need a much bigger RAM and more storage, and a bigger budget, the Nord is here for you as well.
