Design

As we always say, design is subjective and differs from everyone’s personal taste.

But if you want to go for a more premium feel, then go with the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite. This thing is sandwiched with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 in front and back. Plus, a curved screen that really gives a high-end touch. It’s available in elegant Midnight Black, Glacier White, and Nebula Purple color options.

On the other hand, the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G offers a more flashy and eye-catching look. It features a textured 3D glass panel on the back, with striking Nova stylized logo. You can get it in Huawei’s signature Purple color with small Nova logo stripes, Crush Green with a large Nova logo, and a new and cleaner Space Silver with hints of pink and blue. All of which are color gradients, as expected.

Display

The table above clearly shows that the Mi Note 10 Lite won this round. For starters, it uses an AMOLED panel, which is more vibrant and has deeper contrast than the IPS panel of the latter.

It also has a tough and curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that looks really sleek and keeps the screen safe from accidental scratches. The Note 10 Lite also managed to have a slightly higher screen-to-body ratio despite sticking to a traditional notch, unlike the Nova 7 SE 5G that already has a punch-hole screen.

Processor

This is where the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G dominates. Recently, AnTuTu hailed the Kirin 810-powered Nova 7i as the most powerful midrange Android phone on the market. A couple of Snapdragon 730G devices also made in the list, but not until the sixth spot.

The interesting part is, the Kirin 810 5G model found on the Nova 7 SE has a higher clock speed of 2.36GHz, versus the 2.27GHz on the non-5G model. With that, we expect the Nova 7 SE to outperform the Snapdragon 730G on the Mi Note 10 Lite.

Although, if you don’t need that much power, you can get the Mi Note 10 Lite and save money by going with the 6GB/64GB model. Expanding storage via a more traditional microSD card is also more convenient than Huawei’s NM cards.

Camera

Well, if you’re into mobile photography, you can’t go wrong with either of the two. As you can see, both devices have the same 64-megapixel main cameras, and the usual 8-megapixel ultra-wide, macro, and depth sensor. Although, it’s worth noting that the macro shooter on the Mi Note 10 Lite has a sharper 5-megapixel sensor (versus 2-megapixels, for those who actually use it.

If you’re serious in video recording, the duo can shoot 4K videos and 960fps ultra slow-mo.

Both devices also use the same 16-megapixel selfie camera. For the price, it would have been nice to see an ultra-wide front camera and telephoto on these devices, just like what we have on the Realme 6 Pro.

Battery

We have a mixed bag result on this one. In terms of battery capacity, the 5,260mAh of the Mi Note 10 Lite clearly dominates the 4,000 of the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G.

But in terms of charging, the 40W Huawei SuperCharge, partnered with its smaller battery, means that you can charge the Huawei device faster than the 30W charger of the Mi Note 10 Lite can fill up its 5,260mAh battery.

Others

Obviously, the main highlight of the Huawei Nova 7 SE is its 5G connecitivty. And sitting in the below-Php20k price segment, it’s the cheapest 5G smartphone in the country.

Huawei is really spearheading the 5G era in the Philippines, with the Mate 30 Pro 5G as the first-ever 5G-equipped smartphone to arrive in the country.

Although the 5G coverage is still very limited in the country, it’s nice to have a phone that’s futureproofed when more 5G towers are built in the Philippines.

The Nova 7 SE also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which we personally find more convenient to use than the fancy but sometimes unreliable in-display fingerprint scanner on the Mi Note 10 Lite.

However, the latter do come with NFC for wireless payments and an IR blaster to help you control your non-smart appliences.

Conclusion

The Huawei Nova 7 SE clearly takes the lead over the Mi Note 10 Lite with its more powerful processor and futureproof 5G connectivity.

However, there’s still the issue of GMS support. We recently made a video showing that it’s possible to install all your apps on the Huawei App Gallery and third-party app stores, although it’s not as easy as it was before. But if you don’t want to go through the hassle, then you might be better off going with the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite.

It may be behind the benchmark ranking, it’s still one of the most reliable processors around. In addition, its premium design, great display, large battery, and cheaper price make up for the lack of 5G connectivity.

Speaking of which, the Huawei Nova 7 SE has a price of Php19,990. For the same 8GB/128GB configuration, you can get the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite Php1,000 cheaper for Php18,990. You can also go with the 6GB/64GB for Php16,990 and expand the storage later.
