Filipinos who wish to succeed in video game development, and by extension the ICT industry, should improve their programming skills. Thankfully, there are a lot of free resources to learn and improve programming skills if you know where to look, such as TESDA’s new game programming course. 

Officially entitled Game Programming NC III per the curriculum, the course is designed for trainees to learn the essential skills needed to develop standalone computer games. Trainees will be taught to design game logic and apply object-oriented programming. They will also learn how to work as part of a programming team to communicate and solve coding-related problems together.

Development tools to be used in the course include Visual Studio, Eclipse, Unity 3D and game engines. Curiously, Adobe Flash is also mentioned in the curriculum, despite the technology appearing to be headed towards the grave, for real this time.

By the end of the course, a national assessment will be made to certify trainees who have satisfactorily completed the course. These qualified individuals will be ready to work as programmers, designers, testers, and scripters in video game development.
