Two months ago, Lenovo announced its latest lineup of Intel-based IdeaPad Slim laptops. Among the models in the series is the IdeaPad Slim 5i.  Powered by a 10th generation Intel Core i7 processor, the device hosts a number of multimedia and security features with up to 15.6-inch FHD+ display, Dolby Audio-powered speakers, a fingerprint scanner and power button combo, and a privacy shutter for the webcam. We recently got our hands to it, and here are our initial thoughts.

At first look, the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i presents a minimalist yet premium build. It has a metallic matte outer shell and rounded corners that won’t hesitate users to lug it out from their bags. With that being said, it’s not surprising to know that the device has won Red Dot Product Design Awards for this year. True to its name, the laptop is lightweight at just 1.39 kg. It is available in three stunning colorways—Platinum Grey, Graphite Grey, and Light Teal. We got ours in Graphite Grey.

Sitting on the lower right is Lenovo’s branding in glossy silver.

Underneath are the rubber feet at the top and bottom surface of the device. Placed in the middle is the double horizontal grille for air ventilation.

Featuring a unique lid design, it allows users to open the laptop even with one hand.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i provides more options for its screen sizes: a 14-inch and a 15.6-inch. Both come in FHD+ resolution at 1920 x 1080 with 300 nits of brightness. Our model unit has a 14-inch FHD+ display. It has a narrow side, bottom, and top bezels, which maximizes the viewing area at 90%. Unlike previous IdeaPads, the hinge of the Slim 5i only opens the laptop up to 135-degrees.

At the top of the display is the 720p webcam with privacy shutter.

Turning the laptop on the right reveals the SD card reader and two USB-A ports.

Meanwhile, the charging port, USB Type-C with Power Delivery and Display Port support, HDMI port, 3.5mm headset, microphone jack, Lenovo NOVO button for resetting the device, and power LED indicator are all placed on the left.

Just like the previous Lenovo IdeaPad laptops, it boasts a chiclet-style keyboard with backlit. It shares arrow and navigation keys, which can be accessed with the Function key, eliminates the number keypad, and produces minimal typing sounds. Users may now lock the Function Key, too, by pressing it with the Escape Key. To enable its white backlighting, just press the Fn key and Spacebar. Below the keyboard is the touchpad, which does not trap smudges and fingerprints. Lenovo’s embossed logo can be also be seen on the lower-left corner.

On the upper right is the power button, which also serves as a fingerprint scanner of the laptop for more secured logins. Next to it is a power LED indicator, which turns red when the laptop is in low battery.

Powered by Dolby Audio, its dual side-firing speakers are located at the opposite ends of the keyboard’s edges.

Onboard our unit is a 10th Generation Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor mated with an 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD storage. With a 57Wh rated battery, Lenovo claims the IdeaPad Slim 5i to last up to 12 hours on a single charge. It also comes with pre-installed software for security, productivity, and PC management such as McAfee LiveSafe, lifetime license of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019, Lenovo Utility, and Lenovo Vantage.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5i is available at authorized dealers nationwide in two variants: a 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1 and a 10th Gen Intel Core i7-1065G7 processors. It is currently priced at PHP 49,995 and PHP 59,995, respectively. Stay tuned for our review as we go more in-depth on its performance, as well as our overall thoughts on the device.
