MMDA has recently required motorcycle riders and back riders who will be traveling within Metro Manila under the general community quarantine (GCQ) to wear full-face helmets.

As posted on the agency’s Facebook page,  the helmet’s visor or shield should reach the chin of the motorist and should be worn along with a face mask during the whole trip. Among the qualified helmets include open-face and modular helmets.

The new policy was ordered by the National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19 and was part of the new guidelines released by the NTF for motorcycle riding during GCQ. M

Motorcycle back riding without a barrier was earlier allowed for passenger and driver who lives in the same house. They should have valid IDs or documents as proof that they live together. The government also allowed back riding for essential workers or authorized persons outside the residence.

As for those who do not live in the same roof, they are still required to use motorcycle barriers such as those designed by Angkas. The motorcycle should be privately owned and not for hire.
