A new car battery just got made by a Chinese factory, and it can be charged to full capacity in just five minutes.

As reported by The Guardian, the battery design comes from the minds behind the Israeli tech startup, StoreDot, while credit goes to Chinese manufacturer Eve Energy for building it.

In terms of mileage, the five minutes’ worth of charging translates to 100 miles (about 161 kilometers).

We won’t be seeing this new battery tech in consumer vehicles just yet, though, since electric car chargers available today aren’t good enough to allow the battery to reach full capacity in such a short amount of time.

The actual chargers that can provide the needed juice require tremendous investment in manufacturing and infrastructure.

But per StoreDot CEO Doron Myersdorf, the fact that they were able to create the battery on a standard production line meant that a lithium-ion battery with five-minute charging is no longer impossible.
