OPPO is a known name for camera-focused smartphones, and recently, the company launched its newest addition to the Reno series, the Reno5 5G. Now, without further ado, let’s dive into our review!

Design and Construction

Let’s talk about the design. The OPPO Reno5 5G achieves a glossy plastic finish with some gradient effect and a metal frame on the sides. Our unit is in the Starry Night color but is also available in Moon Night Black and the stylish Aurora Blue.

Upfront, we get a punch-hole on the screen’s upper left side, housing its front shooter. We also get the call speaker here. The phone has a vibrant OLED screen with slim bezels and a slightly thicker chin.

Now for buttons and ports, we have the power/lock button on the right side. While on the left, we have the volume buttons and the dual SIM tray. They’re made out of plastic, but they’re firm and clicky.

Up top, there’s the secondary microphone.

Meanwhile, down at the bottom are the 3.5mm audio jack, primary microphone, USB-C port, and loudspeaker.

Flipping on its back, it looks almost the same as the OPPO Reno4, especially with the camera placement. So far, the Reno5 5G’s design has no huge difference from its predecessor.

We still like the color options, especially the Aurora Blue, which is unique and more stylish. In the hands, it feels functional, lightweight, and has a good grip.

Display and Multimedia

Moving to its display, the Reno5 5G sports a 6.43-inch screen with Full HD+ resolution and a pixel density of 410ppi. It has a crisp and vibrant display, plus, it is also equipped with a 90Hz refresh rate so you can enjoy smooth animations and transitions. Its brightness level is decent, too, as you can still see the screen well at max brightness under direct sunlight.

As for audio quality, the single down-firing loudspeaker is loud enough to fill a room; however, you only have one speaker. So, if your finger happens to block the other corner more often, we recommend you use your earphones.

Camera

Now for cameras. The Reno5 5G sports a quad-camera setup consisting of a 64MP main, an 8MP ultrawide, a 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth. Meanwhile, for selfies, you get a 32MP shooter.

In proper lighting conditions, images produced sharp details with accurate color reproduction. For portrait mode, background separation is good. It blurs out the background very well while preserving the details. For macro shots, it is quite impressive as details are sharp and colors are still accurate. On the other hand, lowlight shots are good but note that you’ll need a tripod or super steady hand when you use the Night Mode. Details are not that sharp, but it is present. Shots tend to look hazy, depending on the lighting.
