With public roads partly being trafficked by wrongdoers, a party-list lawmaker has proposed on Tuesday a move to surveil the public roads with closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) in a bid to prevent criminal acts and aid on their investigations as needed.
As per ACT-CIS Rep. Rowena Niña Taduran, the monitoring of crimes can be enhanced if CCTVs are disseminated on national roads via electric light posts.
For areas that do not fall into the same category, such as other public roads, Taduran claims that it would fall under the local government units to handle such concerns.
The recent proposal came in light following an alleged “misencounter” between operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City last Wednesday.
Furthermore, the lawmaker is suggesting the removal of the court order requirement in order to access CCTV footage, which often hampers criminal investigations, particularly from private establishments.
