PLDT, Smart add 279 5G base stations to improve fixed and wireless network - Android

In Q3 of 2020, Smart 5G has been installed in additional key areas in Cebu, Iloilo, Boracay, and Davao.

These locations will be added to the list of Smart 5G coverage locations in the Philippines. The list includes Metro areas like Makati CBD, Bonifacio Global City CBD, Mall of Asia Bay Area, Araneta City, Quezon City, even in select areas in Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna.

Moreover, Smart has also increased its LTE base stations by 17% and 3G stations by 15% by last September.

Meanwhile, PLDT Home broadband is now present in 46% of cities/municipalities around the country, which uses both fiber and copper cables. Fiber passage has increased by 14% to 8.3 million, and the total capacity has increased by 9% to 3.8 million ports.

To further improve its Fiber services, PLDT has an ongoing plan of adding 500,000 fiber ports, while Smart aims to gain 2,000 additional cell sites by next year. Those who still use copper, don’t worry, as PLDT is currently upgrading copper wires to fiber for free.

PLDT had capital expenditures (CapEx) of Php432 billion from 2011 to September 2020. But for 2020 alone, the company is expecting to have a capex of at least Php70 billion.
