Xiaomi’s sub-brand, POCO, just launched its latest midrange phone.
The POCO M2 Pro is simply a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 9S with a couple of upgrades, and almost similar to the other Xiaomi devices that we already have.
So the question is, was the M2 Pro really necessary? Today, we will be comparing it with the Redmi Note 9 Pro, one of the brand’s most popular offerings today.
Much like the M2 Pro, the Redmi Note 9 Pro sports a couple of interesting specs and features that aims to justify its price tag.
Here in our POCO M2 Pro versus Redmi Note 9 Pro specifications and features comparison, we’ll see if POCO’s latest still has a room in this saturated market already populated by Xiaomi’s own devices.

As you can see, both devices are pretty similar in design. The two are sandwiched with a sturdy Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and has the same exact size and dimensions.
Despite the M2 Pro’s unnecessarily mouthful color names, the available options are pretty much alike. They also come with punch-hole in the middle of the screen for the selfie camera.
This is one of the disappointing facts about the POCO M2 Pro and its bigger brother, the F2 Pro. Their designs were copied from other Xiaomi devices, thus lacking the uniqueness that the first Pocophone F1 was known for.
As what you just saw in our specs comparison table above, the two share the same displays.
They both use a 6.67-inch FHD+ IPS screens, which are large enough to provide room for multitasking, watching movies, and playing games. Although, we wish that the punch-hole was on the corner, instead of the middle, so it’s less distracting.
Both phones also share the same processor. They are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G octa-core processor. So if you’re all about performance, you can’t go wrong with either of them.
They also come with fast UFS 2.1 storage and 6GB of RAM, but the M2 Pro is giving you a cheaper option with a 4GB RAM variant.

This is probably where their only main difference lies. The Redmi Note 9 Pro sports a 64-megapixel main camera, winning against the 48-megapixel main shooter of the POCO M2 Pro.
But after that, their similarities goes back again. As you see, they share the same 8-megapixel ultra-wide, 5-megapixel macro, and 2-megapixel depth sensor.
They even have the same 16-megapixel selfie camera. However, the Redmi Note 9 Pro’s official webpage did say that it supports 120fps slow-mo video recording, which we didn’t see on the M2 Pro’s.
Here’s another similarity. The Redmi Note 9 Pro officially comes with 5,020mAh battery, while the POCO M2 Pro has 5,000mAh. The marginal difference shouldn’t be noticeable.
The Redmi Note 9 has a 33W fast charger included in the box despite only have support for 30W. On the other hand, it appears that the POCO M2 Pro fully supports this charging speed, earning them special points for this comparison.
So, does the POCO M2 Pro makes sense? Well, maybe for India, yes. If you remember, the Redmi Note 9 Pro that they got was different from the global version that everyone had. Plus, they never got the Redmi Note 9S — which is possibly the reason behind the M2 Pro’s existence.
However, this makes us worried about POCO’s future. Will their future releases be rebranded versions of existing phones, too? After the legendary Pocophone F1, people had high expectations on its successors. Hopefully, it doesn’t continue this way.
