If you’re an old Android enthusiast who was into flashing smartphones, then you might be familiar with CyanogenMod. But as phones became more powerful and flexible, the days of custom OS became obsolete. Now, XDA is still alive and has decided to make a phone of their own.
They teamed up with F(x)tec for the hardware, as XDA focuses on what they know best — developing the software. Dubbed as the Pro1-X, the smartphone will run on LineageOS, a system made from the discontinued Cyanogen. XDA has also rigged it with Ubuntu Touch OS support.
The developers were able to have HDMI output working via its USB Type-C port so that you can plug it into a larger display for a Linux desktop-like experience.
Albeit, it will also work well using its dedicated 5.99-inch FHD+ OLED screen with its gesture-based interface. It can even run Android apps thanks to AnBox.
The hardware is based on F(x)Tec Pro 1. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It’s then powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with a 3,200mAh battery.
Built for enthusiasts, it has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, quite remeniscent to the early Android phones back in the day.
The F(x)tec Pro1-X has a price of USD599 (around Php29,000) and will be available through crowd-sourcing platform IndieGoGo.
