The year 2020 is where we’re seeing full-on adoption to the next-gen 5G connectivity — at least for the smartphone industry.
We’ve been seeing chipsets with built-in 5G to more flagship and midrange phones, and now, it’s slowly working its way to budget and entry-level devices. Qualcomm, one of the biggest mobile chipset manufacturers in the world, is on board.
Realme V3We’ve already seen the MediaTek Dimensity 720 processor in action. It’s a 5G-equipped chipset that’s powering the Realme V3, the cheapest smartphone to come with 5G connectivity.
Now, Qualcomm announced that they are bringing 5G connectivity to its popular Snapdragon 4 series. A line of processor meant for sub-Php5,000 smartphones.
As of writing, 5G have made its way to almost all of Qualcomm’s line up. From the flagship Snapdragon 800 series, top midrange Snapdragon 700 line, and midrange Snapdragon 600 series.
Qualcomm is yet to announce the exact date of the 5G Snapdragon 400 series’s arrival, nor the first devices to have it. Albeit, they did announce that it will arrive sometime in Q1 of 2021. Chinese brands like OPPO, Xiaomi, and Realme are expected to call first dibs on this new processors.
If you’re in the market for a budget 5G phone available locally, the cheapest we have as of writing is the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G. It was discounted to Php17,999 from its original price of Php19,990.
