Summary of advantages

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G:
• 120Hz refresh rate
• LPDDR5 RAM
• Higher main camera resolution
• 8K video recording
• 50X zoom
• 5G connectivity
• Improved S-Pen
• Improved Samsung Dex
• Larger battery capacity

Samsung Galaxy Note 10+:
• Higher ultrawide camera resolution
• ToF 3D camera
• 45W fast charging

Display

The two devices almost have the same screen size with the Note 20 Ultra only larger by 0.1-inch. Both have AMOLED panels and QHD+ resolution and HDR10+ support. However, the Note 20 Ultra offers a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung is yet to reveal the glass protection on the Note 20 Ultra, but the Note 10+ has Gorilla Glass 6, so we’re expecting at least the same level of protection.

Chipset

Both are powered by flagship chipsets but the Note 20 Ultra has the newer Exynos 990 which is the same chip found on the S20 series. The Note 10+, on the other hand, has the older Exynos 9825. We’re yet to benchmark the Note 20 Ultra but if we’re going to base it on the benchmark on the S20 Ultra, it scored 497,806 in our review, while the Note 10+ scored 348, 080. It’s a significant improvement that can be felt when running demanding tasks such as photography, videography, and gaming.

Memory

The Note 20 Ultra in the Philippines come in 8GB LPDDR5 RAM + 256GB storage for the 4G LTE model and 12GB LPDDR5 RAM + 256GB storage for the 5G model. The Note 10+ comes in 12GB LPDDR4X RAM + 256GB or 512GB storage. The Note 10+ offers the biggest storage option, however, the Note 20 Ultra offers a faster RAM. Both have support for microSD cards.

Camera

The Note 10+ features four rear cameras consisting of a 12MP main, 16MP ultrawide, 12MP telephoto, and a ToF 3D camera for depth sensing. We were expecting the same number of cameras on the Note 20 Ultra but Samsung decided to let go of the ToF 3D camera and just went for a whopping 108MP main camera with Advanced Hybrid Laser AF, capable of 8K videos and 50X zoom. For selfies, both have 10MP sensors.

Again, a high megapixel count doesn’t always mean better images. We’ll make that judgment once we have both units in for review.

Connectivity and Features

Samsung is offering a 4G LTE model of the Note 20 Ultra which will be available in its authorized stores. But if you want the 5G model, which you probably want the most, you’ll have to get it through a telco. So it’s either Smart or Globe for you. The Note 10+, on the other hand, only has 4G LTE.

As for other features, both are IP68-certified for water and dust resistance. S-Pen is present in both but the Note 20 Ultra has a more responsive model. Both also feature Samsung Knox and Samsung Dex, although the Note 20 Ultra supports wireless Dex mode on supported Samsung Smart TVs.

Battery

Samsung bumped the battery capacity of the Note 20 Ultra to 4,500mAh which is 200mAh more than the Note 10+. What is weird, though, is the fast charging rate as the Note 20 Ultra has a slower 25W fast charge compared to the 45W on the Note 10+. Both devices support wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

Price

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 4G LTE 8GB + 256GB is priced at PHP 67,990, while the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G 12GB + 256GB is at PHP 72,990.

The Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 12GB + 256GB is at PHP 60,990, while the Galaxy Note10+ 12GB + 512GB is at PHP 72,990.

Which one to get?

If you have a lower budget, don’t need 5G and the enhanced cameras, the Note 10+ is a great choice as you’re getting a large RAM for the price. But if you want the new features at a lower 8GB RAM, you can get the Note 20 Ultra 4G LTE for PHP 7,000 more. But if you’re prepared to spend PHP 72,990, it’s obvious, get the Note 20 Ultra 5G. The new features including 5G connectivity at a lower storage capacity is a worthy trade off.
