Smart Communications just announced that they completed its VoLTE rollout across all Philippines, making them the first local telco to do so.

Smart VoLTE, or voice-over-LTE, is an IP-based carrier-grade voice service that basically makes voice calls clearer and with high-definition, thanks to the power of LTE network. As long as both parties use VoLTE-supported phones, they can experience crystal-clear calls.

Other than high-quality voice calls, VoLTE users can also make and receive calls while simultaneously using mobile data applications. Gone are the days when the device have to switch from LTE to 2G/3G when getting an incoming voice call.

VoLTE calls are also faster and has lesser connecting time when calling.

The VoLTE is available for both Smart Prepaid and Smart Signature subscribers. The service is powered by Smart LTE’s strong coverage across the country.

It’s compatible with a slew of smartphones available in the Philippines. That includes Samsung flagships like the Galaxy S8 series, Note 10 series, Galaxy A devices, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Huawei smartphones like the P30 series, Y5 2019, and other smartphones from different brands have it.

So, how do Smart VoLTE works? To start, you have to enable the feature in the settings menu. Once activated, users can make VoLTE calls using the device’s native dialer app as usual. No extra setup is needed.

Moreover, Smart VoWiFI (voice-over-WiFI) was also introduced. This should be great if you don’t have a prepaid load but has access to an internet connection. The calling process is the same.
