Tablet shipments expected to decline significantly in Q1 2021 - Android

DigiTimes Research’s report reveals that tablet shipments may decline by 31% in the first quarter of 2021. That’s after it got a 13-quarter-high spike in the last quarter of 2020, selling about 51.56 million units.

Tablet shipments have a sequential growth of 17.6% in Q4 2020 or 19.3% year-on-year. This is no surprise as people needed devices for distance learning and remote working.

Apple launching a budget 10.2-inch iPad also helped up the numbers last year. All in all, the industry shipped 159.76 million tablets last year, a substantial year on year increase.

However, like in previous years, the first quarter is where tablet shipments really drop. Also, the industry may expect component shortages during this period.

It’s said that, as of today, the lead time for tablet chip orders is around 20 weeks. With that, supply chains may not recover until the second half of the year.
