DITO Telecommunity, the third player in the telco industry dominated by the duopoly of Globe and Smart, has been granted a franchise by the Philippine congress.
The House of Representatives has approved the bill giving DITO Telecommunity — formerly named Mislatel — a 25-year franchise.
About 240 lawmakers voted yes and 7 didn’t during the third and final reading of the House Bill 7332, which is “An act renewing for another 25 years the franchise granted to Mindanao Islamic Telephone Company Inc, presently known as DITO Telecommunity Corp.”.
The congress also amended the Republic Act No. 8627 that says “an act granting the Mindanao Islamic Telephone Company Inc, a franchise to construct, establish, install, maintain and operate wire and/or wireless telecommunications system,”.
