With schools and companies continuing their operations remotely, giving your loved ones a decent tablet for productivity as a present is a brilliant idea. However, comparing specs and prices can be cumbersome. So, to complete your holiday shopping list before the Christmas rush, we’re giving you our recommendations of tablets launched this year. We made sure that it fits every budget and features good specifications for both work and play.

Author’s note: There are a lot of tablets released this year, so we shortlisted our top recommendations for each price segment. The devices listed are those that were launched in the Philippines in 2020. 

Under PHP 10,000

Huawei MatePad T8

More affordable than the T10, the MatePad T8 has a smaller 8-inch HD display. Onboard is a Mediatek MT8768 chipset, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. It has two cameras: a 5MP primary, and a 2MP front-facing camera. Among other features of this LTE-ready tablet includes a microSD slot for storing more media files and apps up to 512GB, Huawei Mobile Service, EMUI 10.0.1 based on Android 10, and a 5,100mAh battery. The Huawei MatePad T8 retails for PHP 5,990.

Huawei MatePad T10

Huawei’s latest affordable tablet sports a 9.7-inch IPS display, Kirin 710A processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, and a 5,100mAh battery. Unlike its previous tablets, this one ship with Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) that allows users to download other Android apps from the AppGallery or install apps from the official and third-party websites using the Petal Search Widget. It runs under EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10, features a dedicated microSD slot up to 512GB, and is rechargeable through a USB Type-C port. However, this one doesn’t come with a SIM slot It also has Huawei Share for wireless file and media sharing. It retails for PHP 6,999.

Lenovo Tab M10 HD Gen 2

The second generation of Lenovo Tab M10 HD has the Kids Space,  a digital platform from Google that shows recommendations for child-friendly apps, games, books, and videos.  specially designed for children. Upfront, it has a 10.1-inch HD  display with TUV Rheinland certification for eye protection from harmful blue light. It is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22T processor, 4GB RAM, and up to 64GB storage. Running under Android 10, it has parental controls through Family Link that allows parents to monitor their child’s screentime and consumed content, Play and Read tabs for accessing free apps and ebooks, and Watch and Make tabs for watching child-friendly content from YouTube. For entertainment, it has dual speakers with Dolby Atmos. It comes in two configurations: 2GB+32GB and 4GB + 64GB which retails at PHP 8,990 and PHP 9,990, respectively.

Under PHP 20,000

Huawei MatePad T10 s

Another member of the MatePad T10 series’s premium version, the T10s, comes with a SIM slot for LTE SIMs, 3GB RAM, and 64GB storage. It has the same front and rear cameras, processor, battery, and OS as its younger sibling. It runs under EMUI 10.1, features a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front cameras, powered by a Kirin 710A processor, and has a 5,100mAh battery. Just like its older sibling, it ships with exclusive proprietary features such as Huawei Share and Huawei Mobile Services. The MatePad T10 s is priced at PHP 12,999.

Lenovo Smart Tab M10 FHD Plus

Featuring a 10.3-inch FHD IPS display, the second generation of Lenovo Smart Tab M10 FHD Plus has bigger expandable storage up to 256GB. In terms of hardware, the M10 Plus is very similar to its predecessor. It has a MediaTek Helio P22  chipset, LTE connectivity, 8MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and 5,000mAh battery. It also comes with a free smart charging dock with Google Home Hub support and a Kids Mode app. Its 4GB + 64GB LTE model costs PHP 13,990 while the 2GB+ 32GB Wi-Fi model retails at PHP 11,990. 

Lenovo Tab P10

Lenovo’s P series is a premium family tablet that can be placed in a dock. For its hardware, the tablet comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, 4GB RAM, and 64GB storage onboard. As for biometrics, it has a fingerprint scanner. Other features of the Tab P10 includes an 8MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, LTE connectivity, large 7,000mAh battery, and quad front-facing Dolby Atmos speakers. Rechargeable via USB-C port, it runs on a previous Android 8 Oreo. It has a price tag of PHP 14,990.

Under PHP 30,000

Apple iPad 2020 (8th-generation)


Bringing in a few enhancements in terms of hardware, Apple’s 8th generation of iPad is now powerful compared to its predecessor. It is now powered with a newer A12 Bionic chip. Although it features the same 10.2-inch Retina display with 3.5 million pixels, it is a bit heavier from the 7th generation at 490 g (Wi-Fi model) and 495g (Wi-Fi + LTE model). It retains most of its specifications from the iPad 2019. This includes an 8MP rear camera, 1.2MP FaceTime HD front camera, up to 128GB storage, first-generation Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard support, 4G LTE connectivity, and up to 10 hours of battery life.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

This year, Samsung expands its lineup of tablets with the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. It is mainly driven by an octa-core Exynos 9611 processor. It has a 10.4-inch WUXGA+ TFT display, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage, LTE connectivity, AKG dual speakers with Dolby Atmos, and single 8MP rear and 5MP front cameras. One of its unique features is the magnetic S-Pen that allows users to write notes quickly on the tablet. It has Samsung Knox for an additional layer of security, expandable memory via microSD slot up to 1TB, and a 7,040mAh battery with 15W fast charging capabilities. It is currently priced at PHP 26,990.

Huawei MatePad

Huawei’s mid-range tablet for 2020 shares some of the key specs from its premium variant. It has a 10.4-inch IPS display at a lower resolution. It has an octa-core Kirin 810 chipset clocked up to 2.27GHz. Compared to the Pro version, it has a lower configuration at 4GB RAM and 64GGB storage, as well as a lower rear camera resolution at 8MP. Among the specifications that it retains from the Pro, the variant is LTE connectivity, NFC, Harman Kardon quad speakers, Huawei M-Pencil support, and a 7,250mAh battery with an 18W fast charging. It has a price tag of PHP 20,990.

Above PHP 30,000

Huawei MatePad Pro

Huawei’s premium mid-range tablet is powered by an octa-core Kirin 990 processor. Inside, it has 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 7,250mAh battery with 20W wired and 15W wireless charging support. The Pro version has a better 10.8-inch QHD display with DCI-P3 wide color gamut coverage for color accuracy and TUV Rheinland certification that lessens blue light emission for eye protection. It also comes with an M-pencil with over 4,000 levels of pressure sensitivity and high tilt sensitivity, a Smart Keyboard, and 4G LTE support. The tablet also has Harman Kardon-tuned speakers and Huawei Share, allowing multi-screen collaboration and wireless file sharing across Huawei devices. Locally, the MatePad Pro comes is available for PHP 32,990.

Apple iPad Air 2020 (4th Generation)

Apart from its new looks, the iPad Air brings in a few improvements in its hardware. To improve performance for AI, graphics, and image recognition, it is now powered with the A14 Bionic Chip. Its display is made better, thanks to its new 10.9 inch True Tone Liquid Retina display. The latest iPad Air also now features WiFi 6, up to 5Gbps data transfer speeds through its USB Type C port, and support to Magic Keyboard, Smart Keyboard Folio, and second-generation Apple Pencil. It also has a 28.6Whr battery with 20W wired fast charging. Out of the box, it runs iPadOS14 which is the dedicated operating system for iPads.

Apple iPad Pro 2020

Apple’s latest iPad Pro models come with dual-rear cameras, LiDAR Scanner, A12Z Bionic chip, and support for the new Magic Keyboard. It comes in two variants: an 11-inch or 12.9-inch Liquid Retina display. The two variants differ in screen resolution and battery capacity. The 12.9-inch variant has a larger screen resolution at 2732 x 2048 and a 36.71 Whr battery. Meanwhile, the smaller iPad Pro has a resolution of 2388 x 1688 and a 28.65 Whr battery. Both also share dual rear cameras consisting of 12MP main and 10MP ultra-wide sensors, and a 7MP TrueDepth front camera. Do note that Apple’s premium tablets come in either Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi + Cellular units with 128GB to 512GB storage.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series boasts many features that you can expect from a premium tablet. The S7+ has a 12.4-inch WXGA+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, and 10,090mAh battery with 45W wired fast charging. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab S7 has a smaller 11-inch WQXGA LTPS display, 8,000mAh battery, 45W wired fast charging, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage. Both are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus processor.
