By now, you’re probably aware that realme is not limiting its offerings to smartphones. Its scope now includes wearables, IoT, and lifestyle gear and devices. One of them is the realme Smart Scale. It’s not your typical scale, though, as it can measure more than just your weight. Check out our hands-on below.
The realme Smart Scale, well, looks like a bathroom scale. It has a squarish form factor with rounded corners. The top is covered with glass with four metal plates placed above it.
The bottom is made of high-quality plastic with a matte finish. Found in the corners are large non-slip rubber pads to keep it stable.
You will also find here the battery compartment. Four AAA batteries power the realme Smart Scale, and we’re glad that realme already pre-installed some so you can use it right away. realme says that the battery is good for 360 days if you’re using it 2 to 3 times a day.
In terms of quality, the realme Smart Scale is hefty (1.69 kg) and solid. I didn’t hear any creaking or feel any flexing. realme says that its operating weight range is 0.05 kg to 150 kg. There’s no mention of any water-proofing, so keep it away from water if you’re going to place it in the bathroom, or make sure that you’re not dripping wet when using.
The realme Smart Scale will work right out of the box. As soon as you step on it, the hidden LED display will light up and provide you with your weight.
Stay on it for a few more seconds, and it will also provide you with your heart rate. Really cool!
But if you really want to see even cooler features, you’ll need to pair to the realme Link app on your smartphone via Bluetooth 5.0. Once paired, the realme Smart Scale will send the data to the app to estimate the following according to your age, weight, and height:
Body mass index (BMI)
Body fat percentage
Muscle mass
Biological age
Body fat weight
Visceral fat index (VF)
Basal metabolic rate (BMR)
Lean body mass
Muscle mass percentage
Body water
Bone mass
Protein
Skeletal muscle
Another good thing about the app is that you can create multiple profiles for the realme Smart Scale. That way, multiple family members can use the scale and store their data on their profiles.
Take note, though, that you should not make health decisions solely on the device’s analysis. realme states on its webpage that the realme Smart Scale is not a medical instrument, and its data should not be used for medical treatment or diagnosis. If you want to make health-changing decisions, we highly recommend seeing a medical professional first.
We see the realme Smart Scale as a good device for helping you keep an eye on your weight. While we can’t overly rely on it for serious health issues, it also helps keep you aware of the importance of staying active, regularly exercising, eating healthy, and drinking plenty of fluids.
The realme Smart Scale is priced at PHP 1,590 and is available in Blue and White colors. See the listing here.
