vivo is expanding its Y-series of smartphones for 2021 and if you’re a long-time vivo fan, you’ll know that this isn’t the first “Y31” device that the company released. The first “Y31” was released back in 2015. Now we got our hands on the 2021 model, so check out our initial take on the device.
The vivo Y31 features an attractive frosted matte finish on the back. It’s still prone to fingerprint smudges, so better use the free jelly case included in the box. It is available in two colors, Racing Black and Ocean Blue.
Looking at the front, it has slim bezels and a slightly thick chin. For display, it’s a tall device with a sizable screen and a mini-drop notch at the center for the selfie camera, as well as the call speaker. So far, the display is good and would suffice for casual use.
On the right side, we’ll find the volume rockers and power button that also acts as a fingerprint scanner.
Nothing can be found on the left. While at the top of the device, there’s the secondary microphone, the dual-SIM tray, and a dedicated microSD card slot.
Down at the bottom is the 3.5mm headphone jack, primary microphone, USB-C port, and loudspeaker.
Looking at the back, we can see the triple cameras consisting of a 48MP AI main camera, and you’ll also find here it’s vivo branding. Check-out some quick sample shots below.
In the hands, even though a bit hefty due to its massive 5,000mAh battery, the Y31 is still comfortable to hold and use. For charging, it supports 18W fast charge.
The vivo Y31 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 series which is more than enough for day-to-day use. We’ll talk more about its specs, performance, and price in our full review, so stay tuned for that!
