At least 47,000 gaming apps are no longer listed in the iOS App Store in China, as Apple is forced to comply with policy changes from state regulators.

Per a report in The Information, China is closing loopholes in its policies that for years Apple took advantage of to allow paid gaming apps to appear in its app store despite pending approval from Chinese regulators. 

China’s closing of these loopholes is seen as one of its retaliatory moves against the US for its threats against TikTok, WeChat and other Chinese-owned apps.

As tensions arise, observers fear that China could completely shut down the app store, which generates more than 200 billion yuan in sales for Apple and developers.

Though the number of removed gaming apps is significant, Chinese mobile users still have plenty of games left to choose from, with over 160,000 available for free and not subject to the aforementioned policy changes.
