The temporary general license of Huawei, which allows them to work with U.S. partners and customers, just recently expired.

This made both Huawei and Honor smartphone owners worry about the future of their existing devices. Will they still get updates? Will their devices be left out? Should they switch and get a new one from a different brand? Well, if you’re one of them, this latest news might give you peace of mind.

Huawei just revealed that the expired license will have no impact on existing devices. This basically means that Huawei and Honor smartphones that shipped with Google Mobile Services (GMS) and Google Play Store installed will continue to receive software updates and app updates. That includes the last GMS-supported smartphones like the Nova 5T and P30 Pro.

As per Huawei, this is thanks to its strong open-source community and the brand’s own R&D capabilities.
