AMD had just recently published a blog titled “Game Beyond 4GB” where it shows how current gamers should go beyond just 4GB of VRAM when running games.

To make a point, the graphics processing unit manufacturer made a side-by-side comparison of its own Navi-based Radeon RX 5500 XT GPU, with both the 4GB and 8GB variants.

Although similar in every way, save for the video RAM capacity, the test showed a striking result, showing how the 8GB variant demonstrated a 20% better performance than the 4GB edition.

The test was conducted on games like Forza Horizons 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Borderlands 3, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

But while both cards were able to run the listed games, the real make-or-break test came with DOOM Eternal which saw the 4GB variant unable to run the game on Ultra Nightmare settings. All the while making the 8GB variant able to process it at a stable 75 FPS at 1080p.

With that said, it seems that AMD is indeed making a point right there and not simply running a marketing gimmick aimed at boosting sales against competitors.
