Apple has been one of the most successful companies to date, and that is expected; even though they sell some of the most expensive products in the market, people are still always excited about what they’re going to release next.
Let’s admit that while their devices are pricey, Apple produces some of the most reliable devices and great designed products in this era. Well, except for the trashcan MacPro, the charging port location of the Apple Mouse, and the fact that they’re still using lightning on their iPhones. However, there were numerous leaks and rumors that a portless iPhone is coming soon.
Aside from the iPhone, another product makes Apple a trillion-dollar company, and that is the AirPods.
Since last year, I’ve been using the first-generation AirPods, although I am continuously switching to other wireless earphones, like the Galaxy Buds. But even though I dig the fact that it is cheaper than the AirPods, there’s this force pulling me to use AirPods.
If you’re in Apple’s ecosystem, owning an AirPods is not an exception for some people. Even though it made a significant impact on Apple’s sales, and even though it was released a couple of years ago, some people ask, is owning one an essential?
For me, it is a mixed bag. A couple of months ago, I experienced a significant drop in my AirPods’ battery life, as well as a random disconnection from the left side AirPod when I listen to music and make calls.
When it was new, I had 3-4 hours of music playback, but now, I only got 1-2 hours. I know that lithium-ion batteries degrade over time, but I didn’t expect it to deplete this rapidly. So I went to the PowerMac service center to have it checked. And they told me that one of the reasons why my left AirPods keeps disconnecting is because it’s got a battery issue. I asked one of the staff from PowerMac about what I can do? He said that since my AirPods are out of warranty, I can either buy a replacement left AirPods, which costs PHP 3,450 plus, or buy a brand new set.
If the Airpods had some hardware issues and it’s out of warranty, it is useless. No repair can be done.
So, do I recommend you buying an AirPods? Well, if you are looking for the best wireless earphones to pair with your Apple device, without a doubt, the AirPods is a great choice. It just feels so seamless from paring it with just a flick of the case and comes with zero to no latency. But then again, all this convenience comes with a question of your willingness to spend PHP 9,000 to 13,000 pesos every two years. So are you willing to spend that much?
But if you have an Android device or maybe you are not willing to pay for its price, not to mention AirPods are a disposable piece of tech, then that’s an easy no. But at the end of the day, it is still your preference that matters.
