Two Chinese companies have reportedly have the employ of as much as 100 top engineers from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), according to a report.

Backed by China’s communist government, two big companies—namely, Quanxin Integrated Circuit Manufacturing (QXIC) and Hongxin Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (HSMC)—have both shared a pool of no less than 50 TSMC ex-employees each. Both companies were also being spearheaded by former execs from TSMC.

HSMC is a fairly young company at being three years in the business while QXIC is relatively younger after its foundation back in 2019. The latter was established in response to China’s growing need to become less dependent on American suppliers.

Through the acquisition of said valuable manpower, China is seeking to develop both 12nm and 14nm processes. While not necessarily at par with current standards, it should address the nation’s demand for the essential piece of hardware.

Furthermore, the report also claims that Chinese companies are eyeing TSMC moreso than any other company for its reputation as the biggest chipmaker in the world. The companies are said to pull off the recruitment by offering 2.5 times the employees’ annual salary back with TSMC in addition to handsome bonuses.
