We compare two of the most popular smartphones out in the market right now — the realme 7 and the vivo V19 Neo. Both midrange phones launched this year with a lot to offer to consumers.

But as most comparisons go, we’re here to find out which one will give you the most bang-for-your-buck.

Quick recap: realme 7 or vivo V19 Neo?

The realme 7 is the dynamic upstart. The phone launched in the Philippines just last September priced at PHP 14,990 and armed with internals that will make most game-loving consumers smile. It has a 90Hz IPS display with 120Hz touch sampling rate, a Helio G95 gaming chipset, 64MP quad cameras, and a 5,000mAh battery.

The vivo V19 Neo, on the other hand, is the savvy veteran (sort of). The phone was introduced earlier in June with a PHP 17,999 price tag at launch. Now only PHP 15,999 after a couple of months, it offers an AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 675 chipset, 48MP quad cameras, and a 4,500mAh battery.

Design

In terms of design, the choice between the two will solely rely on what appeals to you the most. That being said, realme 7 and the vivo V19 Neo are both beautiful phones featuring with clean lines and curvy aesthetics.

From the front, you can hardly tell the two apart. The large screens have really narrow bezels with their earpieces barely noticeable at the top. The punch hole selfie cameras are slightly different. The realme 7’s is on the upper left corner, while the vivo V19 Neo’s is on the upper right. The latter’s is slightly smaller, which help gave it a 91.38% screen-to-body ratio, compared to the 90.5% of the former.

At the back, both phones have their camera modules on the upper right with their logos on the lower left in landscape orientation. The vivo V19 Neo has a silver camera module, while the realme 7 has an elongated black design. Both rear cameras protrude prominently from the back panel.

Looking at their dimensions, the V19 Neo is the slimmer device, measuring in at 159.01 × 74.17 × 8.54 mm and weighing 176g. The realme 7 comes in at a hefty 196.5g, measuring in 162.3 x 75.4 x 9.5 mm.

VERDICT: Despite being the bigger phone, I prefer the realme 7 because its design looks more refined and I find the AG Split Design attractive. The vivo V19 Neo is slightly more comfortable to hold, though. Additionally, the black camera module just looks better and more elegant, in my opinion.

Display

The display is how we interact with the phone and a good (or bad one) will make or break a smartphone experience. With the realme 7 and the vivo V19 Neo, we have two approaches.

The realme 7 has a 6.5-inch full HD+ IPS display with 2400 x 1080 resolution, 405 ppi, 90Hz refresh rate, 120Hz touch sampling rate, Corning Gorilla Glass protection, and the aforementioned 90.5% screen-to-body ratio.

The vivo V19 Neo has a 6.44-inch full HD AMOLED display with 2400 x 1080 resolution, 409 ppi, standard 60Hz refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, Corning Gorilla Glass, and a 91.38% screen-to-body ratio.

AMOLEDs are generally better for consuming media. It has higher color saturation (most often times overdoing it) and really deep blacks. With the V19 Neo’s 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, movies and videos not only have more accurate colors, but shows a wider range too.

But lets not discount what the realme 7’s IPS display is capable of. The 90Hz refresh rate means it can render the screen about 90 times per second. This translates to a smoother scrolling and animations, less motion blur, better image quality.

For gamers, there’s the 120Hz touch sampling rate. That’s twice the usual touch input speed, meaning the phone reacts to your touches faster and gives you a quicker response in games. In general use, you’ll find the UI snappier and more responsive (you’ll notice this more during typing).

VERDICT: It really depends on what you do with your phone. If you enjoy watching movies, then the vivo V19 Neo and its AMOLED display is a good choice. If you play a lot of mobile games (and enjoy winning), well, you have an advantage with the realme 7 with the 90Hz refresh rate and 120Hz touch sampling rate.

Personally, I prefer the realme 7’s display. Despite having an IPS panel, its still quite nice with punchy colors. The 90Hz refresh rate is huge deal in my opinion. It just makes the experience better. Once you get used to a higher refresh rate, its hard to go back.

Cameras

The phones come with quad cameras, offering a wide range of versatility when it comes to photography.

The realme 7 has a 64MP main with a Sony IMX682 sensor. It comes with an 8MP ultra-wide, a 2MP black and white, and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies, there’s a 16MP snapper. Camera features include Starry Mode, Super Nightscape, Panorama, Portrait Mode, Time-lapse Photography, HDR, Ultra Wide, Ultra Macro, AI Scene Recognition, AI Beauty, Filter, and Chroma Boost.

The realme 7 can record videos at 1080P/30fps, 60fps, and 120fps, and up to 4K/30fps. It also has UIS video stabilization and ultra-wide video.

The vivo V19 Neo has a 48MP main with an 8MP ultra-wide, a 2MP depth, and 2MP macro. The selfie shooter has 32MP sensor. Its cameras offers Super night mode, Portrait bokeh, Portrait light effects, AR stickers, Pose Master, AI Makeup, Super wide-angle (Photo+Video), Super macro, Portrait framing, AI HDR, Burst, SLO-MO, PRO Mode, Panorama, and AI Scene Recognition.

It can record 1080p/30fps and 60fps, and up to 4K/30fps. It also has Ultra Stable Video mode for steadier shots.

VERDICT: When it comes to overall image quality, the vivo V19 Neo has a slight edge with more pleasing colors and dynamic range. The realme 7 has better details. Either way, you can hardly tell the difference, when uploaded to Facebook and Instagram.

When it comes to creative features, this one goes to the realme 7. The phone’s Super Night Mode also has Starry Mode which can give you clearer stars and more vivid color for night shots. It also lets you try a bit of astrophotography. In addition, you also get special night filters that add a new dimension to your night shots.

Performance

The realme 7 is powered by a 2.05GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio G95 processor with an ARM Mali-G76 MC4 GPU, 8GB LPDDR4x RAM, and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. It also has realme UI based on Android 10 and a large 5,000mAh battery with 30W Dart Charge.

The vivo V19 Neo, on the other hand, has a 2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 675, an Adreno 612 GPU, 8GB RAM, and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage. It runs on Funtouch OS 10, Android 10 UI and a 4,500mAh battery with a 33W FlashCharge.

In basic navigation, both phones are fast and snappy with apps loading quickly. Although the 90Hz display of the realme 7 makes it look smoother, performance is close.

The major difference between the two is the GPU. The Helio G95 chip on the realme 7 is more powerful. It scored two times higher in graphics benchmarks, giving it a huge advantage when it comes to games.

VERDICT: Performance is close. But if you play a lot of mobile games, then the clear choice is the realme 7. What’s more, the phone also has a carbon fiber cooling system, which keeps its temperature comfortable during intense gaming sessions.

I would also like to add that the realme 7 has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It is more accurate, it unlocks faster, and it is generally easier to perform. The vivo V19 Neo’s in-display fingerprint scanner is fast, but not as fast as a physical one. Its slightly less accurate too.

Wrap Up

It was a close match between the realme 7 and the vivo V19 Neo. Each of the midrange phones target specific audiences.

The realme 7 is built with the gamer in mind. The chunky phone is priced at PHP 14,990. And with it, you get a very capable gaming phone with a 90Hz display, a 120Hz touch sampling rate, a Helio G95 processor, and a 5,000mAh battery. Its no slouch in the camera department too with a 64MP main shooter.

The vivo V19 Neo is more for the movie buff. For PHP 15,999, you get a full HD AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 675 processor, a slimmer body, and a 4,500mAh battery. You also get a 48MP main camera and a 32MP selfie snapper.

Any of the two phones can give you what you need. But I tip my hat to the realme 7. Not only is the phone the more affordable option, but it should also appeal to more people.

Even if you’re not a gamer, you will like its modern design, punchy display, capable cameras, and creative features.
