The National ID system is now officially ongoing as the registration process kicks in starting today, October 12, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) last Friday.

In a message sent via SMS, PSA chief and National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa claims that the initial step of the registration would require the “10 demographic information of registrants.”

Mapa added that, following a list that contains a list of identified registrants as provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), registration officers will visit each person’s houses in order to gather the data and set the appointment to when they will visit the mobile registration centers, which are located at the local government units.

While everyone is encouraged to avail of the National ID System or Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), the PSA said that the process is optional to the public.

Still a major undertaking, the rollout of the PhilSys is expectedly to come in parts. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) even set a list of provinces that the initial implementation seeks to prioritize: Regions I to IX, as well as BARMM.

The step 2 of the registration process will begin on November 25, 2020, which will gather biometric information of the registrants, such as fingerprints, iris scan, and photographs.
