Huawei’s custom Android firmware, EMUI 11, is reportedly coming in Q3 of this year. The company also celebrated EMUI’s eighth year anniversary.

The news was confirmed by Dr. Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei’s Consumer Business Software Department. EMUI 11 is expected to launch alongside the Huawei Mate 40 series.

EMUI was first released in 2012, debuting as Emotion UI. In the past eight years, firmware has grown significantly, introducing breakthroughs such as GPU Turbo, the use of AI tech, and implementing the ARK compiler and the EROFS file system. The latter was notably known to boost performance.

Currently, the latest iteration of the mobile OS is EMUI 10.1, which is still rolling out to a wide range of Huawei and Honor devices. The update offered new features and performance improvements including new animations, MeeTime video calling, Screen Sharing, Multi-screen Collaboration, and more.
