Ever wished that Google Maps is so precise that you can literally provide a pinpointed location wherever you may be in the world?
Using Google Maps, in fact, you can—but it will entail using a secret feature that many may not know about. That feature is called Plus Codes.
Essentially Google Maps’ own version of the latitudinal and longitudinal system, Plus Codes works best in spotting a location that is far away from any identifiable address—say, in the middle of nowhere without any close construct or street nearby.
Realistically, the Plus Codes feature make for a nifty feature that lets you inform others of where you are specifically in the map which might see practical usage in emergency situations, granted certain conditions are met for you to even use the app on its entirety.
Fortunately, whether you are an Android or iOS owner, you would still be able to employ the Plus Codes feature considering that Google Maps is available on both platforms. However, they may exhibit certain nuances due to layout design.
To use Plus Codes in an Android device, do the following:
Step 1: Open the Google Maps app.
Step 2: Tap on the blue dot which displays you location.
Step 3: The screen will showcase your “Plus Codes” location at the top of the screen.
Step 4: Inform your significant others where you are using the Plus Codes coordinate.
Step 5: If you’re mobile, you could use the “Share Location” feature, too.
If you are using an iPhone/iPad device, you can use Google Maps’ Plus Codes via the following:
Step 1: Launch the Google Maps app.
Step 2: Tap and hold the screen while pointing on your location on the map, subsequently leaving a red marker in it.
Step 3: The app will pop up your location at the bottom of the screen.
Step 4: Beside the marker icon atop your coordinate, you will see the “Plus Codes”.
Step 5: Copy-paste the Plus Codes location with family or friends.
