Google has rolled out its new file sharing feature called Nearby Share where you will be able to instantly share files, links, pictures, and more, with Android users in your proximity.

Google Nearby Share works similarly to other wireless file-sharing apps you see in the Play Store but this one is integrated within the Android system so it’s more convenient.

Nearby Share uses different protocols to share content and chooses the best protocol for the situation: Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy, WebRTC, or peer-to-peer WiFi.

Nearby Share also has privacy settings available. You can send and receive files anonymously to keep your details private, or you adjust your visibility to select contacts so you never receive files that you didn’t ask for.

Aside from Android smartphones, Nearby Share also works with Chromebooks, but the feature will arrive in the coming months.

Select Google Pixel and Samsung devices will be the first smartphones to receive Nearby Share starting today. Do note that Nearby Share is available for smartphones running on Android 6.0 and up. If it’s not available yet in your Google Settings, you’ll just have to wait for it to arrive on your device.

To turn on Nearby Share:

1. Make sure your Bluetooth and Location are on.
2. Open Settings.
3. Tap Google -> Device connections -> Nearby Share -> Turn on.
4. To turn off Nearby Share, tap Settings, then turn off Nearby Share.

To share content with someone:

1. Open the content, like a photo or webpage.
2. Tap Share Share -> Nearby Share. (You may need to tap Turn on.)
3. Hold your phone and your friend’s device close to each other.
4. Under “Looking for nearby devices,” tap a device.
5. Tap Send.
6. You’ll get a message that says “Sending.” When you get the “Sent” message, tap Close.
