Huawei has recently announced that its Mate 40 series might be the last smartphone to get the Kirin flagship chipsets as the company faces restrictions from the US.

As revealed by Huawei CEO Richard Yu at the China Information Technology Summit 2020, the Mate 40 series could be the last smartphone to carry Kirin flagship chipsets. Set to launch within the Q3 of 2020, the smartphone will be powered by Kirin 9000. The smartphone will support 5G connectivity with AI processing and has a powerful GPU.

Based on the report by Bloomberg, the US prohibits chip manufacturers such as TSMC to use American technology for Huawei starting September 15. The Taiwan-based company is the main supplier of Huawei’s Kirin processors. It has ended taking orders from Huawei in May.

Without the restrictions, Yu said that it could have surpassed Samsung’s mobile shipments last year. For the Q1 of 2020, Huawei shipped 105 million smartphones and a total of CNY 255.8 billion of revenues.
